Biography of Peter Matthews

Peter Charles Matthews, born in Zimbabwe, 14 February 1955.

1974 - Studied Graphic Design at the Durban University of Technology.

1977 - Art Director and Creative Head in various multinational advertising

agencies in South Africa.

1986 - Founding partner and Executive Creative Director of Matthews & Charter

Advertising.

1995 - M&C rated in the top three most creative agencies in South Africa by

Financial Mail. And, awarded ‘Agency of the Year’ by Readers Digest.

1996 - Joined Ogilvy and became Matthews & Charter Ogilvy.

2000 - Peter sold his agency to Ogilvy.

FILM

2000 - Having directed and won many creative awards locally and

internationally as an agency Creative Director, Pete embarked on his

commercial directing career. He produced and directed many

commercials for Multinational Brands including: Barclays, Volvo, Bata,

Unilever, Marriott, Beiersdorf and Yamaha.

2008 – ‘Oil on Water’ – Psychological Drama Feature Film – Director

released in cinemas throughout South Africa.

General –

Peter is in an advanced stage of development on Film and Animation Studios in

KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Partnered with the ex Chairman and CEO of the

Pinewood Studios Group in the UK, Ivan Dunleavy.

Peter is the Chairman of PawPrint Africa NGO. The PawPrint Africa Project is a

non-profit initiative, which aims to increase literacy, as well as encourage

children to develop a love for wildlife, and to motivate them to protect

He is also on the board of the Township Yogi Project. An NPO introducing yoga
